LESLIE’S PET OF THE WEEK!

Heidi Elkins

15 yrs old

My name is Heidi Elkins (aka Spoiled Princess) and I’m 15 years old.  I’ve been a fixture at “Miss Leslie’s” almost daily (including Saturdays) for about 9 years!  My mom says that being able to bring me to Leslie’s has been a lifesaver for her because she never had to worry about me!  I absolutely love spending my days there, because I’m always around nice humans and have designated myself the unofficial “greeter!”  Okay, that just means I bark when the humans come in, but if I can get a treat out of it I’m a happy girl.  When my mom started bringing me for daycare, it was mostly me and Miss Leslie hanging out and I loved all the attention.  I would sit by her feet when she was grooming those other dogs.  Of course, I still get lots of attention – my mom says she doesn’t have to spoil me cos everyone at Leslie’s does a very good job.  In the past couple of years I had eye surgery and lost one eye and can’t see out of the other one.  But I’m still gorgeous and a fighter and except for the occasional bumps into walls I get around pretty well!  Things I love: treats, my mom, my warm blankie, my Gran and “Aunt” Sabrina – the other dachsie in our house, naps, tummy rubs, and everyone at Leslie’s!  Things I don’t love: going to the vet (does anyone like that?!), baths, and being woken up from my nap!

About 1 year old

Hi,

My name is Porsha and I want to tell you about my life.  I am a Rottweiler mix and about 1 year old.  I have been bounced around and have lived in a few places over the past year.  I was placed in a killer shelter a few months after I was born.  I am not sure why I was not wanted in my first home.  I didn’t ask to be born.  Each day in the shelter I prayed for a forever home.  A rescue group in Austin saved me as I was set to be euthanized!  I did not understand why that was going to happen either.  All I wanted was to be loved!

The rescue group was very nice to me and got me in front of the public.  After a week in the rescue group, the mommy I have today saved me on September 22, 2007!  I am in a forever home!  I know she will not leave me.  I am an inside dog, but I have a dog door so I can go outside whenever I want.  There are pillows all over the house.  I sleep in a crate at night, which I didn’t like at first, but I sure do now!  At times, mommy lets me sleep on my pillow in her bedroom.  I have 2 sisters, Niko and Sammie.  There are big huge Dobermans.  Niko and Sammie welcomed me into their home as well!  We have many toys to play with, I have food, water, and vet care!  I know I am loved!  Look at this darling face, why was I not wanted when I was born?

Mommy wants to make sure I have a lot of friends, too.  Her goal was to socialize me with other dogs.  Very important!  Mommy takes me everyday to Leslie’s Pet Purrfections for play-day.  I have so much fun!  I see the same friends everyday, but also make new ones.  Mommy brings my lunch, so the staff puts me in a crate (I don’t mind cause mommy trained me to love a crate) so I can eat my lunch.  Then I rest and back out running and playing with all of my friends!  When I go home, I crawl over to my pillow and am pretty much out all night!

Thank you for reading my story!

Love,

Porsha

Thank you!

Sincerely,
